Welcome to Episode 4 of Live & Learn. Our guest this week is Sarah Smith. Sarah is a mum to three children, Hamish (12), Elise (9) and Ivy (16 months) and with her husband they juggle their two jobs around their kids’ schedules, and family activities. However, the family’s lives have been put on hold since February when Hamish was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Listen in as we discuss what Hamish’s neuroblastoma diagnosis and treatment has meant for Sarah’s family, for Hamish’s schooling, and how we can better support families of students with this condition.

Neuroblastoma is a rare childhood cancer that typically affects children under five years old. Approximately 40 children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma each year in Australia. Neuroblastoma Australia connected MissingSchool with Sarah. They work to raise awareness and fund research to improve treatments and find a cure, while also providing essential support to families.
