Following incorporation, MissingSchool applied to the Australian Taxation Office for Charitable Organisation status, and subsequently for status as a tax-deductible gift recipient. These applications were approved in October 2012 and December 2012 respectively. This was all accomplished in a very short timeframe, and we view the rapid approval of our application as recognition of the value of the work we are undertaking. Our imagined future is that today’s “radical notion” of continuous school connection for seriously sick kids is something that will someday be taken for granted. A time when all sick kids will receive full support from their schools as a matter of course and MissingSchool is a thing of the past. Our measure of success is to embed the change in our education systems and close our doors.
