It’s estimated that 60,000 Australian children miss school for a prolonged period due to a serious injury or illness.

For many of these kids, being cut off from school deprives them of a lot more than their education.

They also miss out on the social and emotional experiences that we often take for granted during these formative years.

Later today, a new report will be released at Parliament House to try and lay out some solutions to keep these kids involved with their schools and their social lives.

It’s been produced by the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth and a kids support network called “Missing School”.

Megan Gilmour is Chair of Missing School and she joins RN Breakfast.
