This study explores the experiences of parents whose children and young people live with long-term health conditions and face school exclusion, partial attendance or non-attendance.

It finds that parents often feel the education system does not fully understand or accommodate health-related barriers: their children face repeated absences, unclear reintegration plans, stigma, and pressure to “catch up”.

Parents call for stronger collaboration between healthcare and schools, flexible attendance models, and proactive support to keep their children connected to education and avoid falling behind.
