A 2024 U.S. study found that nearly 6% of children aged 5–17 missed 15 or more school days in a year due to illness, injury, or disability. Rates were far higher for children with disabilities (15%) and those in poorer health (29%). Chronic absenteeism was also more common among children from lower-income families. The findings underscore how health and equity are closely tied to school attendance and highlight the need for stronger supports so all children can stay engaged in learning.
