A recent study reviewed how well cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps children and young people who have trouble going to school. Looking at 15 different programs, the researchers found that CBT can make a real difference—students attended school more often and felt less anxious, sad, or unsettled after the therapy. While CBT clearly helped with school attendance, the results for improving mental health were mixed when compared to those who didn’t receive CBT. The study suggests CBT is a promising tool but highlights the need for more research to understand how to best support students with ongoing attendance issues.
