Welcome to Episode 6 of Live & Learn. In this conversation Megan Gilmour welcomes Nicolette Ellis, Chair of Chronic Pain Australia, to discuss the impact of chronic pain on children and the need for greater awareness and support. Nicolette explains that chronic pain, affecting one in five Australian children, is often misunderstood and underdiagnosed, leading to delays in treatment and support. She emphasises the importance of early intervention, flexible schooling arrangements, and multidisciplinary care to improve the quality of life for children with chronic pain. They also discuss the challenges families face in navigating the healthcare and education systems, advocating for policy changes and better resources for parents.
Chronic Pain Australia is the national voice for the 3.6 million Australians living with chronic pain. A non-profit, non-government, registered organisation founded in 2001, the organisation is driven by a group of committed volunteers advocating to reduce the social and economic barriers to those who live with chronic pain.
