Collaborating For Evidence On The Learning Needs Of Sick Kids

We are excited about new research being undertaken by the Royal Children’s Hospital Education Institute (RCHEI) which is exploring the gaps in current understandings of the educational needs of children and young people with chronic illness.

We applaud this initiative as recognising the widespread variability and inequity in the extent to which the needs of these learners are met. The RCHEI research will complement the research workinitiated earlier in the year by MissingSchool, with support from Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth and St George Foundation, and we have agreed to collaborate with RCHEI to use our combined research to raise public awareness of the educational challenges faced by kids with critical and/or chronic illness. We are confident that this will be a significant step in improving access to education for seriously sick kids.
